Hi Helen mac, and welcome to MSE :hello:

I've no idea why you've got a refund from nPower. Isn't there any explanation with it?

Is it perhaps related to this article?

You could always give them a call if unsure.

  • I got a letter today - thought it was a hoax at first but then found an article on the BBC website about it.
  • Npower sent me a letter today out of the blue stating that I am due a refund of £41.99 and all I have to do is take the letter to a post office with two forms of ID and they'll pay me out in cash! :j

I didn't know I was due it and have no idea how to check I'm not due more but as it is a windfall that I wouldn't have got without others intervention I'm more than happy - thanks to all those involved! :T
  • I just hauled myself down to the post office (no easy task now that the local one has been closed) to discover that I'd misread the letter and had to have two forms of ID rather than one.

I suspect loads of people will not notice or not get around to cashing in this refund. Why on earth can't they just deduct it from my bill? Obviously they'd need to do it differently for people who are no longer customers, but the vast majority of us probably still are.

My suspicious mind wonders if by doing it this way (and there's a time limit!), lots of the refunds due will never be claimed.

I got one too - about £31- and as several people are no longer with npower they have to write to people to offer them the refund as they cant just credit their accounts. I nearly binned the letter too thinking it was a selling ploy!

    Thats a possibility.

I'll bet that in 12 months, no one will be asking Npower how many they have pocketed from lack of claiming.

As for putting them on accounts...it would cause DD's to be wrong, cause people already in credit to call for the refund and of course, we really don't want them getting interest on that £70m until you have to pay for the energy.

    Oh Thank Heavens.
I got the letter, with the tiny sum offered & was very dubious about carrying on. Thanks to all the above, I shall now click through and collect what appears to be mine. It is not a vast sum, but since incomings need all the help they can get, I shall come over brave & venture onwards...:)
Many thanks & I shall check my two sorts of paper ID once I've navigated around their site...
