Can anyone help? I'm seeing a nutritionist at the moment and I am supposed to be grinding seeds and nuts before I eat them but it's really hard work in a pestle and mortar (and some seeds just don't grind this way).
It has been suggested that a coffee grinder would work but as I don't drink coffee I don't have one and don't really want to buy one specially if something else would work.
Any ideas? Thanks...

I think a coffee grinder is your best bet. I often see cookery writers recommend them for grinding nut, seeds and spices. I would regard it as a useful tool if you are going to grind nuts and seeds regularly.0

Hi GL
THere are quite a few for sale on Ebay, both electric and hand grinders. SOme of them are very expensive, but you might be able to pick up a bargain0 -
Thanks - I had a look on ebay this morning actually but I'm not really sure whether a cheap one would be any good / whether I should get electric or hand etc. etc. Might have to go into a shop for some advice.
Also - I'm totally put off by some of the sellers on ebay and their descriptions of things - 'wow' , 'cool' etc. Don't know about anyone else but I immediately think 'charlatan'...0 -
I would agree that a coffee grinder would be your best solution.
I sprinkle linseeds on my breakfast cereal in a morning. When I used them whole, they just passed straight through me....sorry if TMI...I tried to grind them with a pestle and mortar, which was useless so I gave in and bought a coffee grinder, which does the job in a few seconds.
I got mine from a little local electrical shop,it was around £10-£12,but most department stores and kitchen ware shops would stock them.0 -
Hi Goonlord.
I use a coffee grinder too. I grind up pumpkin, sesame and sunflower seeds along with golden linseed. I eat these either mixed with home-made muesli or else with plain yogurt and fresh/frozen berries.0 -
Yes Linseeds on my breakfast are my problem too! Bigger / softer seeds are easy to chew up but not pesky little linseeds.
Now that I've had confirmation that a coffee grinder would do the job, I guess I had better invest in one! Is yours electric? I am guessing it would be as you bought it in an electrical shop - d'oh!0 -
Yes, mine is an electric grinder too.0

You could have a look on your local freecycle to see if anybody has a grinder they don't want or put a request in for one, you could get it for nothing then!
Mine was free with a blender that I bought, so if you haven't got a blender either you could ask for one for your birthday, I think mine was about £18 for the two but some electrical places do offers.NSD Challenge 2010:Jul 12/12; Jun 21/14 :T; May : 6/6

Thanks Herbaholic - I have got a blender (very useful!) but think I am going to treat myself to a grinder now!
Does anyone know why you are supposed to grind seeds? Is it simply to make sure you get all the nutrients out of them?0
