New mattress had moth infestation

Earlier this week we had a brand new mattress delivered for our bed.

The mattress came securely wrapped in plastic. We removed the packaging and placed the mattress onto our bed, where I noticed a small golden coloured fly, which was dead. I then noticed a small hole on the top of the mattress, at the time, I didn't connect the two and was only really bothered about the hole.
I immediately phoned the shop and explained what I'd found. The assistant told me she would order another one for us but it would take about three weeks and until then we could keep the holey mattress.
I thought this a little strange as nobody from the shop had even seen the holes, so why take our word for it?

We had a closer look at the mattress and found more holes and more moths, YUK!
I just wanted this mattress out of my house so I phoned the shop again and asked for it to be collected today. I was told this wasn't possible but she suggested I put it in my garage.
My husband and I struggled to put it back into the bag and get it down stairs but it was really heavy and we were clearly not going to make it to the garage, so I phoned again and asked for it to be collected today, the assistant was not very nice and I was starting to get upset so in the end (after a couple more phone calls) she managed to agree for it to be collected today.
The delivery men came back within half an hour and didn't mind at all.
We then had to get our old mattress, which was in the garden, back onto our bed which was another almighty struggle, then vacuum everywhere to make it moth free.
I have heard nothing from the shop, not even an apology.
Am I entitled to compensation, an explaination or anything??

You can't lift a mattress between two of you?

The mattress got damaged, the store have collected it for you. The only thing you need to say is Thank you to the store for acting so quickly.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Your entitled to a replacement which the store are doing. I think the store are actually helping you a lot
  • Yep. you deserve some compo. In fact i think you should get at least 25 thousand pounds from them fro your very bad experience at the hands of this malicious company.

It is more likely that the moths got into the materials at the manufacturers, as it would have been bagged up at the shop. So it isn't really the shops fault. They have done all they can do for now, and I'm sure they have given the manufacturer a roasting.
