A friend recenly emigrated to USA and whatever he did not sell he left for me to have. One Item was a Netgear DG834G v3 router.
Ihave tried to use it but on wifi it needs a password, I have emailed my friend but obviously he no longer has it. Is there a way to reset the Router so that if my own packs in I could use it.

Isn't there a reset button on it...
As you have the model number I'm sure you could find the full manual online

Google brings up this as the first result:Google wrote:If you go to Netgear's homepage, you can download a full manual for the router (only 170 pages) - it's in pdf format, so doesn't take long - excerpt here:
Restoring the Default Configuration and Password
This section explains how to restore the factory default configuration settings, changing the
router’s administration password to password and the IP address to 192.168.0.1. You can erase the
current configuration and restore factory defaults in two ways:
• Use the Erase function of the Web Configuration Manager (see “Backing Up, Restoring, or
Erasing Your Settings” on page 6-1).
• Use the Default Reset button on the rear panel of the router. Use this method for cases when
the administration password or IP address is not known.
Using the Reset button
To restore the factory default configuration settings without knowing the administration password
or IP address, you must use the Default Reset button on the rear panel of the router.
1. Press and hold the Default Reset button until the Test LED turns on (about 10 seconds).
2. Release the Default Reset button and wait for the router to reboot.ng. All the advice you could need is there.
I expected it to be 'hold down the reset button for xx seconds, download the manual if the above doesn't work..0 -
You could try connecting the laptop to the router using an ethernet cable.
Then open your internet explorer and in the address bar tyoe:
http://192.168.0.1
It should ask for username and password. If it's still set to default for a DG834G this should be:
Username: admin
Password: password
Then click on Wireless link in the left hand side and it should display what the WEP/WPA keys are.
