Make the active tab a bright colour in Firefox

I'm swamped in unfamilar tabs at the moment and am wasting loads of time hunting for which tab I'm currently using, so I want to paint it a bright colour.

I can't find a suitable add-on.

There seems to be a generic solution posted around the interweb, but it's from 2007 and doesn't seem to apply anymore.

(add some posted text to your userChrome.css file)

1) Windows can't find such a file
2) apparently it lives in my Profiles folder, which I can't find either
3) what would I use to edit it, anyway (?Notepad).
