Message saying Internet exployer has stopped working

Hi I can't get on Internet exployer everytime I try and open a page it says "internet exployer has stopped working, a problem caused the programme to stop working currently windows will close the programme and notify you if the sloution is availble". Once u click on the tab the page closes, my daughter can get on msn messenger please help i've got NVQ work to finish today. Thankyou
