Payment of Council Tax - or not????

After a couple of months sorting it out, we now know how much Council Tax we have to pay on our house in the UK.
We received a bill with an amount of £484 on it for the rest of this year, to be paid by four instalments of £121. My son paid the first instalment on 3 October. He has a receipt for this.
Now....on the online bill, it shows that a payment has been made for this amount, bringing the balance down to £363.
However, it still says four instalments dating from 2 November.
And, the money has not been debited from our bank account.
Have we just paid a month too early, and they will debit it in November?
Or have they made a mistake? What should we do?

All advice gratefully received!

I would say your ok, they dont debit for February and March so 4 installments from Nov would take you to Feb. If you had missed a payment it doesnt take them long to send a reminder. If your still worried send them a email.0

We dont as a matter of course, but we can do to keep peoples payments down - its better to do that than put monthly installments on that people cant pay.
It seems that they are still giving you 4 month to py over, even with a lower outstanding amount - Dont worry about it, just keep an eye on the paymentsI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
But the instalments still say £121 and the money hasn't gone from the bank; that's what I'm concerned about.
If we pay four more instalments it will be more money than they asked for initially! (We will have paid five instalments of £121 which is more than the £484 they asked us for)!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Looks like they scheduled 4 instalments, then your son paid them some money. So the bill is acknowledging the payment received but, as it wasn't expected, the instalment schedule is still showing the four instalments.
Ask them to reschedule or wait until the third instalment has been paid then ask them to cancel the last instalment.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
