shut down failure,,,,,

any body no how i can fix this
when i click start and turn-off then when
i press shut-down every-thing goes as normal but where it says windows is shutting-down it stops on that screen and it
doesnt turn off,,
i have to keep my fingure on the power button till it turns off
help needed please

I have had the same problem for months. I tried everything I could find on Microsoft and the Internet to solve this problem but to no avail, until now.

The problem is possibly, according to Microsoft, that some programs or services are not terminated 100% when switching off. This causes XP to hang.

September this year, Microsoft came up with a new solution which can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1B286E6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en
I downloaded this programme, installed it and hey presto! Problem solved.

you could check to see if you have set your virus checker to search the floppy disk drive on close?
