Hi,
I am taking a couple of 14 years old lads to Haven next week (The orchards. Thanks to the sun ). I have stayed there a while back but didn't go out much .
However just in case the place has declined since my last stay ( when it was still British holidays ) I was wondering if there are any attractions locally that I should take in?
Thanks
Paul

Well Captain ...
There's very little in Clacton other than the beach. St Osyth priory is quite interesting. The best closest thing is Colchester Castle and other items of historical interest in that town.
If they are not into history or slot machines, you've had it."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -

They're into slot machines but I am not sure my bank balance is up to it.
After the daily allowance is done then who knows?

Hi Paul,
I agree there isnt much to do in Clacton but the pier is fairly good with several rides, etc and last time i went, there was an aquarium there (all be it a bit on the small side). They could maybe try fishing off the pier or go crabbing? Other than that, you could take the train or bus to walton and hunt for shark teeth or visit the pier there as that has a bowling alley.
In colchester, there is still the roman castle, the zoo, lesuire world, ten pin bowling and several other small museums in the town.
I will add any other ideas as i think of them, that part of essex was my neck of the woods before i moved.

tbh, i think you would be better off just staying on the site, and making use of the facilities there. there is very little for teenage lads to do in clacton/colchester, that isnt history orientated. the only places i can think of in colchester that lads hang out at, would be the swimming pool, bowling alley or skating rink, and you have all bar the skating rink on site anway

echo the above - not a lot. London is only an hour (ish) by train you could make a day out there?loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0

This is not open to the general public any more - you'll go past it on your way to the orchards but that's all you'll see of it.
Colchester zoo shreik week is always good fun - then there is Clacton leisure centre activities.
Have fun!:)0 -
There's a smaller seaside town not far from Clacton, called Walton on the Naze, and if your kids are at all into wildlife there's a nice boat trip where you get to see lots of seals. We did this in summer and it was really good. Here's an article that came up on google about it with booking details at the end.
