Ive spoken to income support, benefit will be reduced by amounts above, but not stopped as long as I inform them how much and when it will be paid in. I have differing information from housing/council tax benefits. But as we will still be in receipt of income support we are still entitled to these benefits either in full or again reduced by £1 for every £250 over the £6000 savings limit. Will have to wait and see i suppose.
Still, honesty seems the best policy here as I wouldnt like to be looking over my shoulder or risking a fraud conviction. Im glad I checked in to things first and would advise anyone else who finds themselves in this situation to do the same! Thanks again for your replys.0 -

So you've just got 13k given to you for nothing and you're still going to take taxpayer handouts from the state. Unbelievable.
Doesn;t matter if you're "entitled" to them, it's morally wrong.0 -

My feelings entirely, how the hell can someone with a years wages in the bank claim income support. And if they can claim the money have they no morals, in taking tax payers money, to pay there rent and council tax and food etc, when they have more than enough in the bank to provide for themselves. They dont want to spend there own money on everyday expenses but they will spend ours, its sickening.
They cant have any sort of pride in themselves. I hope that the money brings them no luck.
I honestly dont think that they will be entitled to housing benefit and council tax, a woman from my area was in court last week for not declaring that she had 7,500 pounds in savings. She had to repay all the money that she had claimed in Housing Benefit and council tax. The Council are usually strict when it comes to savings, that is most probably the reason why the OP didnt get a straight answer from the Council.0 -

paddedjohn, you took the words out of my mouth. 13k in the bank for a lot of people on benefits is like winning the lottery. Use it to better yourself and goodluck for the future!:j0 -
