problem with laptop after using dongle

I borrowed a 3G dongle for my laptop which changed the way the web site displayed pictures by compressing them, to get the full image you have to push Ctrl R. The problem is I'm not using the dongle now but I'm having trouble loading some web pages and I'm getting wait for 1.2.3.4. in the bottom corner, which from a google search is related to the dongle software even though I have uninstalled the connection manager. How do I get rid of it and get my web browsing back to normal.
