My dog is very clingy

My dog is 13. She's always been clingy, if I'm in the kitchen so is she, if I go and sit in the living room so does she. But over the past few weeks, it's really increased. She is literally everywhere I go, and whimpering to be stroked. She's literally cms away from me all the time, and quite apart from the danger in falling over her I'm wondering if it's normal. Is it to be expected as she gets older and older.

I've always stroked her and made a fuss of her, but she just doesn't seem able to be placated now. I'm more or less 100% that she isn't in any pain or she doesn't seem poorly. All the usual, good health indicators are there and it's not a painful whimpering, it's the 'stroke me, make a fuss of me' whimpering. Is it just to be expected?

Yes i think it is old age,and her mind going a bit, just like humans might.Sad to see but as you say, as long as she is not suffering physically i doubt there is a lot you can do.The vet may be able to suggest something though,so i think it would be a good idea to get her seen.

Any change in behaviour should mean a Vet check - particularly in older dogs who are often set in their ways, until they fall ill. It may be something as simple as deafness, but please get her checked.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I would have her checked out at the Vet, just to be safe, especially given her age.

Some dogs do get a little more "needy" as they grow older, particularly around that age, and will want to spend every second with their owner but any change in behaviour is always best checked by a vet.

Thank you for your replies. I was going to get her checked out anyway to be sure, but just wondered if anyone had any prior knowledge of this happening in the ageing process

It is happening to my new neighbours. They moved in this year with a very old dog,who has become very clingy and howls if they leave him, bless him.So they have to take him with them everywhere.

This happened to my friend, he had to take his dog everywhere with him, or get a sitter.
