A 12 year old will be at school for at least 30 hours a week, more with after school activities so a min of 24 hours can easily have the bulk done within those hours with maybe just a few hours over them if 9-5 job.

I thought OP was saying that OH works when 12 year old is home to provide care, not that OH works when 12 year old is at school.

If the extra 8 hours work gives access to a load more benefits then it may be worth paying some of that money out to provide the care that means the 12 year old can have a life and not become a carer.

The 24 hours can be split between a couple. As OP can use the internet, there may be opportunities for ebay or similar to cover some of those hours.

I'm sorry that you have been upset by those posts and can understand how you must feeling at the moment. I don't think the poster was deliberately trying to upset you, just being incredibly insensitive to your new position since the cuts and the predicament you are in.

I just hope someone can help you out in a more sensible and understanding way. I'm afraid I can't help in a more practical way, but want to wish you luck.
Just in case you were wondering (some have)..... I'm a woman!

I didn't mean to offend; I obviously didn't phrase what I was trying to say in a way that was helpful.
    I'll try again...
If your OH working an extra 8 hours a week means that she earns lets say £80 more than before, and doing that work is necessary to ensure you still receive all your current benefits (which could be worth £100+ a week), then the £80 extra earned is over and above your current income levels . So maybe you could put the extra £80 earned into funding some care for yourself, which would mean you would have some outside help to meet your caring needs, less pressure on your OH after working longer hours and your 12 year old would be able to maintain his/her current lifestyle.
So it would be a win-win situation.

You're assuming that there's someone who is able to give these extra 8 hours care.

there are agencies who provide care assistants and nurses - my SIL works for one. Some clients she does the odd hour to let carers get to the shops and so on, other clients she works overnights to give carers some respite. Your social work office or local council should have contact details if you can't find them on the net.
