Parked Domains

I wouldn't say no chance. But from what I have read about it (I have no actual experience of this, I looked into it some time ago, but that's all) you need to invest in expiring domain checker software, and a tool to snatch domains, if you want to make any real cash.
Hi, could you tell more about such software? links would be appreciated. Thanks0 -
I researched alot last night about domain snatching. I didn't find any software but it appears most people place "backorders" with various companies like pool.com, enom.com, and snapnames.com. This means that these companies will wait for the domain to "drop" (expire) and then use their resources to try and register the domain instantly. Fees vary from $60 to thousands of dollars if it ends up in a bidding war, and there is no guarantee that the domain owner won't just renew the domain. Most domain snatchers place back orders with ALL of the backorder companies, meaning they have 3+websites all trying to get the domain for them, and if one succeeds, they only have to pay that one website (of course the others will fail at registering it). It seems like a highly competitive business and I got abit overwhelmed by it. I placed a backorder last night on a good .com thats expiring soon but I no way expect to win it.0

Sorry, by Software I meant a script
Mostly, the scripts are used by the domain registrars, which is what Ewaf is referring to. Some people have access to the scripts themselves, whether by coding it themselves, or buying them, I'm not sure.
Like I said, I'm not actually in this business, I've just researched it when I was considering starting using this kind of thing.
dscott - A quick google search for "domain drop script" or "domain drop tool" brings plenty of results which may help.0 -
Does anyone do this or know anything about it? I have been researching it for the last couple of hours. I have been trying to find domains that haven't been taken that would generate a lot of traffic, such as typing mistakes etc. and using google adsense's parked domain tool. Apparently it can be abit of an earner.
Cheers :T
To put this into context, think of how many times you've ended up on a parked page because of a typo?
I think most people, out of habit, google whatever site they happen to be looking for rather than typing out the URL. Generally the only time I've ended up on a parked page is when looking for domains to buy, to find out it's already taken by someone who hasn't done anything with it. Next, you have to find a site popular enough to be able to generate enough traffic from typos, bearing in mind that big companies often buy domain names resembling their primary domain name to redirect people who've mistyped the address.
My gut instinct is that I doubt you'd get enough traffic to justify paying for the domain name and privacy (if that's a concern). In other words you may end up out of pocket. :eek:0 -

Sorry, didn't get that far down the thread. Good luck with it and let us know if it's a money spinner.
Yes can be addictive, until you see the bill :rotfl:0 -
:rotfl: well 6 quid for a .com or 2 isn't going to bankrupt me anytime soon! Yea I pretty much discovered what you said about typo domains myself, I asked my self and some friends when they typo a domain and its a page full of ads (parked domain), what do they do, and the general outcome was retype the domain...
But with the two domains I have bought I intend on turning them into websites, and working on one at the moment, and got the other one parked with sedo.com for now, but I am going to just set up an adsense wordpress for it.
Cheers guys0 -
How do you know when the domain is going to expire? where do you check it?
I googled some forums about the subj and stumbled upon a story of a guy telling he had bought a domain name that consists of cyrillic letters corresponding to "google.com" in english layout (basically it's all the people who forget to switch the keyboard layout and type google.com), he then parked the domain and claims he has $80 per day!0 -
Ummm theres various ways of seeing when domains expire. You can go here http://www.domainmonster.com/expired-domains/ and they have a list of domains expiring in 5 days, but I looked through them and there are tens and tens of thousands, and it's like looking for a needle in a haystack!0
