Benefit Changes will they affect me

  • I can tell you now what this is going to create.............................................

Partners who work for minimum wage are all of a sudden going to be out of a job so they can both claim, this whole thing has not been thought out at all still what can you expect from a bunch of public school boys!!

Claim what? If they claim JSA they will go into work focused groups and that won't be fun. If they pretend to be ill to claim disabilities payments: the government are already onto those that do that, so that won't be fun either.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
Read the sticky on the House Buying, Renting & Selling board.

  • alot of people on DLA like myself have to use the £49 per week to have a car to get around and therefore would have no further income!!!

Don't just go to CAB with your debts, speak to other agencies as well so that you get as many options as possible. If you go on the Debt Free Wannabe board then they'll help you with your finances (I'll be back on there in a few days, I'm just full of cold and have an essay due).

I'm in a similar position to you - Single, on SDA (pre-IB), and DLA, and at the moment the cuts aren't going to affect me, in fact when I'm moved onto ESA they wont affect me as I'm single and don't have savings.

So please don't worry or start taking drastic action.

Also, if you're struggling with debts just remember that they can't have what you don't have, if all you can afford is £1 a month then they'll have to accept that. Again, on DFW there'll be loads of help and advice about it.

The Op is on IVB and not IC which was paid to people who had paid the correct ammount of NI contributions, people who didnt got SDA like you do, for clarification.

any disabled people are already entitled to DLA so why do they need a second benefit?

Only if they meet the criteria. DLA doesn't go that far when you include things like extra water, heating, etc.

Ah right, I thought they were just on IB. Yes, if you're on the means tested version then you will be affected, but if you qualify for means tested benefits then you should be ok.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Singles will be able to fall back on a means-tested safety net, but everyone else will be forced to rely on the generosity of their partner.

I think couple may "split up";) after 11 1/2 months of one of the partners being on disability benefit. Just like those big families who will be hit by the benefits cap of the average wage
  • I ain't a clue what I am on all I know is long term higher rate incapacity benefit. What is IVB and IC?
