Co-op Selling Individual Bags of Crisps from Multipack Bag

Hi all

I have just been shopping at my local Co-op and bought amongst other things an individual bag of Walkers Salt and Vinegar crisps. After consuming them I thought I would enter their competition to win £10 every day it rains. However I could not find the code printed on the inside of the packet and I then discovered that it is a multipack bag not to be sold separately and it therefore does not have a code on it but rather on the large outer wrapper. I have e-mailed Walkers to advise them but just wondered if I should contact the Co-op myself to complain. Any advice greatly appreciated.

this is normal for them, if a bag busts then they sell off the loose bags

Were they cheaper than the normal ones,

I know there is not as many crisps in them,

They should nt do it anyway.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Just checked receipt and it is not on there, so don't suppose I can complain - lol - still feel cheated that I couldn't enter the competition as I only really "bought" them for that reason.

How is this normal for them as they won't make any money at all if they just go through the till free?

err no, this is not normal. Packs of anything, including crisps from a multipack do not have a barcode on them, so therefore cannot be sold idividually, unless they've been whoopsied obviously.

  • I bought a packet of crisps from my local Railway Station which were part of a multipack, and they charged 60p. I rang Trading Standards and they told me that they were well within their rights to do so.

I have seen plenty of fizzy pop cans sold seperately which had the multipack writing on them.

And what is to stop a shop selling bags of crisps, from a 10 for £1 multi-pack, woopsied to 20p per pack?

I've seen my local Morrisons selling individual (dented) cans of beer from a 4 pack for £1.25, when the intact 4 pack only cost £3.99.

Shops can sell anything they want, at any price. All they have to do is put a sticker on it.

It sounds like a multipack split, and somebody didn't realise and put them on the shelf and then the shop can't scan them without a barcode. As they can't scan them they decided to give you them for free rather than causing a fuss.

But you still have your 50p to spend on another packet, so haven't really lost out.
