Dehumidifier help - Homebase 148310 (manual & smelly)

Hello!

Hoping a few kind MSE folks :j might have an idea to help us out with two small questions about our new Homebase 148310 Dehumidifier. It was a gift to us, but unfortunately without the manual.

1. Where might we find a manual?

2. How can we get rid of a smell within the dehumidifier? It's been used before but we have already opened up the entire system to give it a good clean. Unfortunately it still smells musty. Can anyone recommend anything to help?

Cheers!

The smell will be from mold on the on the condenser or evaporator.
I cleaned mine with a steam cleaner to kill off the mold and blast the dirt off, it is fine now.
Give the condenser and evaporator a good blast with the steam but keep away from any electrics or heat sensitive plastics.

I have had a dehumidifier for around 15 years and it still works Currys own brand

I never once had mine smell. I never cleaned inside and I do get dirty water if I leave it to stand but it doesn't smell a quick clean and soak in bleach fixes that

You do have coils in the back its like a fridge at back maybe clean them
  • If it has a car radiator type condenser and evaporator then dirt and moisture stay trapped between the fins which cause the mold and smell. Other designs with more a more open coil structure will dry off faster and be less likely to smell.
The plastic water container can be cleaned with bleach, but not the metal fins as it can corrode them.
  • Thank you very much for the steam cleaning tip and the bleach + water cleaning of the water tank. I shall give these a try.
Can dehumidifiers be flushed? I think some of the smell is coming from within the pipes as I can see a bit of dirt and mildew in these (especially the one leading into the water tank).

    Thank you again!

Can you take those pipes off and rinse through to clean?
