Hi - can anyone recommend a good software package to set up an e-commerce bit on my business's website? Have a shop and would like to retail on line but I am confused with what software I need!
Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi,
We use Zen Cart, Magento or OSCommerce.
Another alternative might be to use the Pay-pal interface. As a registered PP subscriber you can get this free from them. We then integrate this into the site - normally takes around 3-5 working days to integrate.
All stable platforms, all with developer forums and all fully supported. Best of all - free.
However, a word of caution. Free things are not always good and when I say we use it to develop, we actually take the free version and completely re-develop the PHP that makes the engine work, then integrate with our own code.
Be careful, yes you can build a site free, but how are you going to get traffic to it?
If you are serious about e-commerce then you need to have a formal search engine optimisation program in place to get the site recognised and to the top of the search engines.
My clients have a return on average of 16 times a month the amount spent, and we do not promise number 1 positions on Google, but we do have a unique legally binding contract with them which states that if their site does not go on to PAGE 1 on the major engines within the period of the contract, then they get our services free until it does. I am not sure anyone in the country will offer you this. Everyone wants your money, but nobody wants to guarantee a return!
