Barclaycard & Spoof emails

Options
Within 2 days of registering my new Barclaycard with their overseas phone centre I started receiving sppof emails from Barclaycard! I have had spoof emails before for banks etc but never Barclaycard. I seem to remember some time ago Barclays call centres selling info, I am now worried it might be happening to me.

• You can't blame Barclays as it is not them sending them out.
Chuck them in the trash bin and move on.

My wife received something like this from HSBC & actually opened it. It was stating a problem that had occurred & wanted to know her dob, login & password...Luckily She then told me about it before responding, I have had plenty of experience with pfishing emails & it is mostly coincidence that any email like this is from your own particular bank or b/s.
Don't touch them or open them, first check the address from where it comes from & if it doesn't look right bin it.
Lenders will never ask you for this kind of information. These crooks send out thousands of this type of email preying on the people who are not aware of what to look out for.
Basically trust no one without checking carefully & never give out your identity details to anyone requesting them, without your prior instigation.

That's bad advice, email from addresses can easily be spoofed, they have no protection whatsoever. The important thing is to consider what it is asking you to do or where it is trying to send you.

Anything asking to "update details" or "unlock your account" etc is phishing, banks never do this. The few legitimate email communications banks send out are to tell you stuff, not ask you for stuff. Unfortunately, some banks do still put links in their emails (I think they shouldn't). The key is to look at the destination domain for the link and ask yourself whether it actually belongs to the bank, eg a link to barclays.co.uk is legit, but barclays.dodgydomain.net is not. If you're not sure how to differentiate, it's safest not to follow any email links at all. Just find you own way to the bank's site and log on there.

I have heard many Barclays customers say the same. Whilst banks do not send these phishing emails out, there is always the possibility that someone within Barclays might be giving out information to those with other motives. It has been done before, and no doubt still happens in a world fraught with much dishonesty and greed.

its easy. NEVER click on the email for these security "alerts". go to the site directly through a bookmark or google the site and navigate through that.

also depending on the browser, if you move your cursor over the link in the email it will give you the true address it will go to. if it doesnt say barclays.co.uk for example but ident12846/djjee.adclick.com then its a phising scam.

i regularly get alerts from hsbc, barclays, halifax, citibank etc despite not banking with them. that why the delete button is there.
