It's got nothing to do with "cycles". It's about people thinking that they can second guess the housing market and getting it hideously wrong and losing all the money they had.
Unless I'm mistaken, crystal balls don't actually work."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
but all investment involves risk - well apart from sticking your money into national savings.
BCCI went bust, so did Enron taking Anderson with it.
You are right, this is a huge risk, it's betting strongly against the housing market, but if the OP invests cleverly he could make a mint. Suppose he'd done it 18 months ago, invested in gold & pulled out at the right time. He'd be loaded right now.
It's all a gamble. The bigger the risk, the bigger the payoff."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

That's risky too. What if the pound loses half its value so TVs go from £500 to £1000, petrol costs £2 rather than £1, etc.
Nothing is no-risk.My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police - Margaret Thatcher.0 -
