sky to another room

this is really baffling me.!
Have run a cable to another room/tv. when I connect aerial at the sky end, no problem, but when I connect to the other tv (other room),, the satellite signal freezes at the sky end (havent retuned the 2nd tv (other room), yet.
is there a problem with the length of the cable (30 feet), or 'resistance' ?
dont want to get another box, just want to watch same channel, in a different room.
I have used the old fashioned co axial connectors (with adaptors), but the modern sky cable
any ideas please

thanks

  • I suspect that the co-ax cable is shorting out and, probably, you have the RF2 output power enabled. This power is not needed if just connecting directly to a TV.

Try disabling the RF2 power and check your co-ax cable.

You're connecting RF out from the Sky Box to RF In on the TV next door, and your Sky Box says "RF power enabled" ?

As the previous poster said, you should disable this in the menu, then try again.

Assuming the cabling to be new, and you've put co-axial plugs on it properly, I'd be surprised if the cable was at fault - but for a double-check you could use a multimeter to establish the resistance is almost zero in an end-to-end check of the inner and screen, and also establish high resistance between the inner and screen.

RF2 can supply a voltage on the co-ax cable to power a 'remote-eye' sender/receiver. This is a device that will not only supply a sky signal to a remote tv, but will also accept signals from a sky remote in the other room to change the sky program.

By shorting out, I mean the inner and the outer of the co-ax are 'shorting' to one another.

You need to check on the sky box that RF2 power is not on (Services 4 0 1 SELECT, or Services 0 0 1 SELECT to find the menu to check/change the setting. Also use this menu to specify the UHF channel (frequency) to use to supply the sky signal to the remote tv.

    Hope that explains things better.

    thanks folks, will find/check 'menu'

I haven't used an RF outlet, merely split the sky cable, before it goes into the sky box - does that make a difference ?

    ?????????????????????

Let me get this right. You have split the cable coming from the sky dish to the sky box and put one leg into the sky box and the other leg into the second tv!?!?!?!?!

If this is what you have done, then no wonder you are having problems.

Please confirm that this is what you have done!

What you need to do is 'un-split' the cable from the dish and put it back into the sky box.

Then get some 'standard' tv aerial co-ax and connect one end to RF2 on the sky box (with RF2 power disabled) and connect the other end to your second tv.

Then you have made a serious mistake.

Put the Satellite Cable ( Sky ) back as it was, before you do some very real damage.

Did you honestly think that would work?
