I'm probably asking this in the wrong place lol, but would appreciate some suggestions?
We had Virgin Media installed into the main room (living room) of our house
We're looking into moving our living room and dining room around, mainly because the living room has no radiators and is flippin' freezing!
Does anyone know how difficult it would be to move the VM wires/box/router or is this something I should be calling VM about?
Basically, we need to be able to extend the wires, but I'm not 100% sure how to go about this.
TIA

yes you should be able to just buy a new cable that connects the modem to the wall (the exact name of it escapes me atm)
then just unplug from the mains,
unscrew the cable from the wall and the modem screw in the new cable into the wall,
lay it to the new point your want the modem then attach it to the modem and power back on.
connect router/ computer as normal
I would say keep the old cable and if you need to call virgin our for any reason swap it back to where they installed it (all but a five min job at max)0 -
Oh, that's brilliant!
If you can remember what the cable is called, can you let me know? Will I need to get any other attachments for it, like the silver things that screw onto the cable that keep it in place and attach to the back of the box? Sorry, I don't know what they are called...:o0 -
something like this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=219428
it comes with the connectors, both sky and cable use the same connectors and the wire is just the same.
also instead of moving the whole modem (and router if you have a router?) you could also just buy a long ethernet cable (and connect it to the back of the router (or modem if you dont have a router) or if you use wireless you dont need to move the modem at all0
