Nightmare - I phoned Experian to get my account canceled and the guy was actually quite helpful, the account was defaulted in 2008 but its actually from 2004!! I used to have an o2 contract so I am assuming that it is from that but I have no memory of them ever asking for £19 off me or I would of paid it! He said to phone them and check up and see about getting the balance cleared anyways, said it might help!

    Cheers for the replies guys

Yep, your default will be marked as satisfied, never a bad thing as it looks like you clear your debts.

You will still have trouble with anything but sub-prime until the default is over five years old.

It may be that the OP doesn't actually owe O2 £19 at all and it was just a computer error that got escalated?

I had a similar beef with Vodafone many years back where (as a parting gift) their computer billed me for a bogus random amount when i closed the account and VF got a debt agency to chase it up. Took me a few months to get VF to reverse the mistake, meanwhile, my credit history was junk coz they had also reported it to the CRAs.

I guess the 1st port of call is for a statement of account from O2 to actually prove the debt?
