Is there anyway to find out if my house contents are insured?

I know, sounds a bizzare question to ask! I have always had home insurance, generally paying monthly DD. I was just going through my online banking checking DD's and I noticed that my home insurance to AXA was cancelled in Feb (home ins renewal in March). I have obviously got a better quote, cancelled AXA (in fact, I remember phoning them to cancel), but I am having no DD's for another ins coming out of bank. I am thinking possibly I paid for the year in full rather than monthy DD, but can't find any paperwork that shows I am insured.
Is there anyway to find out if I am insured? Is there a database or something? I am so annoyed with myself, especially if it turns out I am not insured
Hope someone can help

If you have paid for home insurance then there is bound to be reference to it somewhere......you must have used either a debit card , credit card or cheque to make the payment so the first thing to do is check all of these statements for the month in which you believe you would have made the payment.0

I have checked my bank statements...nothing
Very unlikely I paid in full on credit card, so unlike me not to set up a renewal though, I am convinced I must be insured, but just can't find proof I am! Feel paranoid leaving house now in case i get robbed or something

Could you have sent a cheque to the new insurance company in the post ? Check all the stubs in you're cheque book.
I cant think of any other ways you could have paid though because unless you visited a local broker and paid the insurance fee in cash then theres just no other way...it has to be debit card , credit card , cheque or cash !
Maybe you are mistaken and you actually never took out a new policy ?0 -
If you have no financial record of paying (on your bank statement or credit card statements) and no insurance paperwork either then this indicates you aren't insured.
I don't believe there is a database.
If you took out a new policy you would have got a small "wad" of paperwork, probably including a booklet.
If you don't remember that, have that and there is no record of paying then all the indications are that you didn't actually take a quote.
You need to get yourself sorted with a policy very quickly and also in the meantime I would double check that all your doors and windows are locked and you don't let your handbag out of a firm grasp.
If you make is a priority then you should be able to set up another policy today.0 -
It is just so unlike me not to renew a policy, and the fact that I cancelled AXA in Feb sort of proves that I had a better quote lined up. I am gonna rip my house apart tonight to try and find paperwork, if not I am gonna have to take out a policy. This also means that i will have lost years of no claims
I normally go through a comparison site and get the cheapest so it could have been with anyone. So blummin annoyed with myself
Thanks for replying, I appreciate it x0 -

Well not quite.
If it was March then you've lost more like 7 months.
Don't forget you've gained your premium for 7 months as well if you haven't been paying.0 -
Try logging into a few of the more common comparison sites...dont they save you're quotes ?
Not too sure how long they save them for mind you , but hey its worth tryin.0 -
You probably won't have lost your no claims discount. Many companies will honour this if the lapsed period is less than 12 months - some allow longer - as long as you haven't had any incidents that could have resulted in a claim within this period.0
