Would this be reason to close the account? As i use cheques quite a bit they are handy to have[/QUOTE]

So far as I am concerned, just the fact that its Santander is more than enough to close your account!!! Santander are the bottom of the banking list - they nearly drove me to murder earlier this year with all their b**** red tape and after a month of getting nowhere I told them to stuff it and took all my money and investments out. (and that was when I was trying to INVEST more money not withdraw it! ) Even that was a long hard grind. DH did the same.

I was with A&L and now with Santander as automatically changed over.
With a&l i had a cheque book facility...but since ive gone over to santander i have lost this facility...i thought that the accounts would match up with what you previously had with a&l?

Well if you want cheques, then switching to a bank that gives out cheques seems to be the logical solution. You don't have to give the bank a good reason to close an account so it really doesn't matter if it's reason enough at all - do whatever you want to do.
