.....even charging per bin bag etc, takes grip over the next few years. If it means we have to take our bottles to a bottle bank ourselves rather than rely on teh council to do it for us, or drop off bags of compostable waste at local allotments then so be it.
So those without a car will be penalised?
One main barrier to recycling is the inconsistancy between councils: some take glass, some don't, same with composting. Some councils manage to take everything and until this policy is adopted by ALL local councils you can't expect those without transport to recycle 100%.0

 No they won't.
 I agree 100% with Lillibet.
I don't have a car, & I have absolutelty no recycling collection from the council, yet I manage to take any plastic to be recycled along with paper, glass and cans.
Until a couple of months ago I had to travel 16 mile on two trains to recycle my plastic. Thankfully there is now ONE plastic collection point in this (very large) town.
I think councils should be doing much much more to aid recycling (more recycling points, collections etc) but until they do, it's the job of us-the public to do what we can.
The biggest problem is, councils are only really interested in hitting targets - rather than actually tackling the problem. This is why plastic recycling is provided a lot less than the others - it's harder to hit targets with.ॐ Signature Removed by Someones Mum. ॐ0

Fortnightly collection for me (& the Mrs) for the last couple of years, rarely is the bin half full, however the recycling bin is collected monthly (always full) and the compost bin is collected monthly (even in december ?)
I have no problems with this, or the charging mechanism that have been threatend, however I think if you get charged for what you send to landfill, surely you should get a rebate on what you recyle.Only one Debt left and thats the Mortgage

Where is this going to happen, planning controls are becoming tighter and it takes ten of millions of pounds and years to go from palnning to actual operation.Wings_of_Ambition wrote:They should burn the non-toxic stuff
However I do agree with your point, burn it and use the heat for power generation as happens in Birmingham, Sheffield, and on the south coast.

16 miles on 2 trains to recycle your plastic  :T ...you must be a :A !!! You cannot honestley believe that everyone should do this! If you do not have a car then of course it is difficult to recycle...I can just see me bagging up my recycling ..strapping it to my back and pushing my pushchair however far it is to the recycling plant ....yes ..totally feasible. I pay £1100 per month in Council tax ...I believe that contribution should ensure that I have my rubbish collected - surely it is not too much to ask? I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes  :T ...you must be a :A !!! You cannot honestley believe that everyone should do this! So you use the car to re-cycle - what about the extra omissions from the car will that not affect the ozone layer.0

People's anecdotes on this board of their recycling habits is irrelevant to this discussion, obviously the bulk of us try our hardest to recycle. The question is whether the 'person-in-the-street' will recycle and for many of them (especially in deprived areas) they have more important things on their plate. Some people of course don't give two hoots for the environment and making recycling facilities less accessible gives them more of an excuse not to recycle.
It is the council's responsibility to ensure that sufficient methods of collection are in place, they want us to recycle? Then make sure the facilities are accessible to all.0

And it is that sort of arrogant attitude that gets right up people's noses. You may have the time and facilities to be able to use washables, but do you know the circumstances of the mothers on the TV. No, but you will scream your views anyway.0
