BT Broadband and Netgear router

I spoke to my friend at work today and he husband is having a lot of trouble trying to set up his BT Broadband connection with a Netgear adsl modem/router.
I'm used to a cable newtork and have set up routers on that. Can anyone point me in the right direction for help in setting up adsl routers in case I'm needed?

See Albert's step by step guide for Netgear routers. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Thanks - I had read this but I don't think he has even got as far as setting up wireless yet. I don't think he's even got it to connect in the first place although he has supposedly used the setup CD.0

Username and passwords is usually all that is required to connect but I'm sure that I have heard that some accounts on BT don't actually need this. The other options a generally standard for most ISP's and there is usually a troubleshooting option to tell you what is happening. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I have the same combo and it runs without problems. I initially set it up with the BT-supplied router (can't remember the model) and then, once that was working, just swapped over routers to my Netgear (again forget the model number) and it all just ran ok...
Pity that Netgear closed down their forums! There was a lot of useful info on there... I still don't understand why they did that - unless they were sick of the negative feedback on some of their products. I have sent them an email asking them - and, surprise surprise, have not received a reply...0 -
I have just spoken to my friend's husband over the phone. It gets more complicated by the minute!
He bought a Netgear WPN824 as it's a cable/dsl router and he intends to use it just to provide wireless and still use his Voyager 205 router. He though that dsl meant he could use it on BT Broadband. I have now explained that it is for cable users on NTL/Telewest.
However I assume he could use it as a wireless access point by turning off dhcp? That way he could connect the Voyager to the main desktop pc by usb and then connect an ethernet cable to the Netgear to provide wireless access for the laptop - does this sound right?
Personally I think he should take it back and exchange it for the Netgear DG834G and do away with the Voyager. At least that way it's a one box solution.0 -

I see from your other post that you have a pm from someone which I'm assuming may be from someone already offering this.
I do have a Netgear WGR614 myself and should have the cd if you still need it.0
