shopping in covent garden

Hi next thursday we have some spare time for shopping in London, there will be 4 of us 2 adults and 2 10 year old girls. We arrive at st pancras at 1119 and need to be back at victoria station at 6pm. What i would like to know is what is the best way to get to covent garden from st pancras and what might the cost be, also how much time will we need to allow to get to victoria coach station, and what is the best way to get there from covent garden.

Thanks in advance.

    that's not quite right:

From St Pancras to Covent Garden: Piccadilly line on the tube from Kings Cross/St Pancras straight there

Covent Garden to Victora: you can go Piccadilly line to Green Park, then change onto the Victoria Line to Victoria, or walk to Embankment tube and get the Circle/District line. It's about a 10min walk.

Both journeys will take less than 20 mins.

www.tfl.gov.uk You can use the journey planner to check out the quickest transport route and advance planner for tube times etc. If you click on fares it will give you the cost of your journeys. The 2 10 year olds will travel for free on tubes and buses, for tubes just go to the end lugguage pushchair manned barrier and they follow you through.

By the time you have bought a tube ticket gone down to the tube travelled to your chosen station then got out of the tube station, just by walking you will be in Covent Garden.

walkit.co.uk/london You will be surprised how close places are and you see London which on the tube you do not. Other wise board a bus to see the sights to get to Covent Garden.

For eating in Covent Garden a new bistro opened last monday called Les Deux Salons on William IV street, worth checking out as prices are reasonable and has a childrens menu. It is owned by Anthony Demetre who has two michelin star restaurants in Soho and Mayfair called Arbutus and Wild Honey respectively. Arbutus being the cheapest Michelin Star restaurant in London.

Victoria Coach Station is behind Buckingham Palace so you could walk up The Mall see the Palace and using walkit.co.uk/london carry on walking to Victoria Coach Station.
  • I was going to suggest walking as well - if you go through Bloomsbury you can probably be there in about twenty minutes. I think the Tube map gives the impression that Central London is huge when actually most of it is very compact. If you get hold of a copy of Covent Garden magazine there's a map of the area in that and you'll be able to see how small it actually is.

In terms of places to eat, if the kids like Mexican food I'd recommend Wahaca on Chandos Street, and for dessert cupcakes from Ella's Bakehouse in the covered market (if you don't cave to churros).

I often do the walk. My route is:
Down the Strand to Trafalgar Square
Throught Admiralty Arch onto The Mall
Through St James Park, to the far end of The Mall, to Buckingham Palace
Skirt the Palace, keeping it to your left, and walk down Buckingham Palace Road
    And you're at Victoria.
45 minutes maximum I reckon, but allow time to take in some of the sights.
Not a wet weather option though.

Hi, thanks for the replies, I'm liking the sound of walking after being stuck on a coach for 4 hours.
