Bank have lost my ID documents - now refusing to lend

Hi,
Just after some thoughts really.
I've been with Barclays since 2002, well the Woolwich originally and then when Barclays took them over a few years later I've been with them since.
All fine and managed my account perfectly really. I went in to see them in July just cos I wanted to see how things were going and they said all looked fine and I was able to borrow any amount of money to consolidate credit cards etc., or whatever I wanted. I'd just bought a house so decided against it then but said I'd go back about now.
The guy in the branch said that they needed some ID which I queried as I'd provided it already since I'd been with Barclays so a bit baffled. Anyway, as my passport was running out within a month or so of that date, I took it in within the next couple of days as I knew I wouldn't be renewing for a while and I don't drive so have no other photo ID except my work pass.
Saw the same guy in the branch and he was with a customer so said to see a colleague and ask them to pass copies of my passport to him. I did this and thought nothing more of it.
Went into the branch on saturday to organise the loan - no problems and all approved until she said 'Oh we need ID'. I explained I'd already provided it and what had they done with my ID if it wasn't on the system? Basically she said tough luck and you'll need to renew the passport.
I explained I had no intentions of travelling at any point in the next year or so and so I'd be paying out money I could use elsewhere to pay for something i'd already provided.
I gave up and applied online back home, again all okay but phoned up today and they've held it up for the same reason. It's not life or death or desperately urgent but I really resent having to wait when I've been a customer for years and then having to pay £77 for something I don't even need as yet. (have looked into getting a provisional licence but would need extra forms of evidence in the absence of a passport).
Barclayloan suggested on the phone that I call back and offer my expired passport, work ID and several utility bills and see what happens. Have left a message with my branch but not heard anything yet.
Sorry for ranting. Just astonished that you can leave a form of ID with a bank and it goes astray and then they just wash their hands of the problem.
Any ideas? Worth battling further with them or just give in and get the passport and send a letter of complaint after?
Thanks.

If you are no longer in possession of your passport, you need to report it 'lost' to the police. If you get a good police officer, they may take it as a 'stolen' passport, as you claim to have handed it to someone as required ID, and they now claim not to have it. I'm sure the bank has cctv in place and you can provide evidence of having passed it over. When the police show up at the bank to investigate the missing passport, and speak to the person you are on camera giving it to......watch them find it! Something similar happened with my OH when he had to get his passport replaced - the relevant passport office would not accept the circumstances of loss, and forced the police to investigate the 'theft' of his passport.0

Thanks. I'm still in possession of the passport, they took a photocopy of the passport and then gave it back to me and she said she'd pass it on to the guy I'd seen the day or two before.
This hasn't happened and I now have an expired passport. Thanks again.0 -
so dont use the passport, they have other documents they can use, bank statements etcTarget Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -

Thanks, I thought the same but they're saying they need photo ID.
I've left a message for them suggesting what the person at Barclayloans suggested that I take in my photo ID from work with my expired passport plus utility bills and all kinds of other proof I can provide.
It's baffling considering they've been happy to give me an overdraft with no issues before.
And just so frustrating given I've provided this ID as they requested back in July and now it's expired.0 -
Surely even a recently expired passport ought to suffice?
The photo doesn't suddenly cease to resemble the holder on the date of expiry - well, no more than most of them do anyway ;-)0 -

I said the same. After all, even expired passports are suitable for Asylum and Immigration Checks for new employees when they start a job. (not for CRBs though - weird).
Apparently the computer would say no! It's good to get other people's opinions. Ultimately, they may tell me to get lost but I'm not giving up without a fight as I refuse to pay £77 unless they agree to reimburse me for this. (not likely I know though again the lady at Barclayloan said it was a possibility).
I'll refer it to their branch manager if necessary.0 -

A few years ago I was initially refused to be given my new card from a branch with an in date passport. Had to provide other documentation and go through security questions.
They were very polite and apologetics about it but had a point. I am one of those unfortunate people who time is not overly kind and between 19 and 26 was a particularly rough time.
Was reminded of that today because I had a new staff card printed. HR lady brought it over and said wow such an old photo, amazing how much you've aged, I informed her it was done 18 months ago. Much silence and awkwardness followed until I burst out laughing.:rotfl: (it was that or cry)Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.0 -

I have a slight illness at the moment, nothing serious. Its a family problem that I have gained.
But When I am photographed I look ill. Everytime someone sees me pic on facebook, passport, driving licence they are all my god you are not well. In real life I am fine they dont see it.0
