in Credit cards
An old debt which has long since been handed over to Marlin is about to-june next year- leave my credit file. I have been offered to settle at 80 percent. When I rang they said that they would accept less. Does anyone know the smallest percentage they'd accept? I tried 57 but they weren't having it. Also is it even worth my bothering?

So you acknowledged the debt and offered to pay (did they also tell you that the call would be recorded?) so the clock starts ticking again - see you in 6 years!0

Hi
When did you last pay anything towards this debt? or acknowledge that you owe the money in writing?
If you are considering doing a reduced full & final settlment with them then you must do it in writing in order for you to have proof that the payment is in full & final settlement of the debt.
People who have agreed F&Fs by phone have often found that they are then chased 4-5years later for the remaining balance and have no proof that the payment was supposedly F&F.
If you have been paying the debt recently (and therefore there is no chance of it becoming statute barred soon) then it would be worth writing to offer a lower F&F if you can afford to do so. You may find that they will take your offer more seriously and accept lower than they said on the phone.
If you haven't paid the debt for years (or acknowledged it in writing) then you may want to consider risking waiting for the debt to become statute barred.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
No, I have been paying a regular monthly payment towards it. That is very good advice reguarding the getting it in writing. I have cleared several debts and haven't done that!0
