Pc screen problem

Hi there.
i have a problem with my 1 year old pc. runing vista and have a LG flat screen connected.. the screen stopped working the other night.. well. when i say that, it still shows 'screen saving' or 'no signal detected' if i plug it out from the PC.

a friend has suggested that the video card might have blown. the only thing different, is that the kids were playing an online video game, not very high on graphics i would say, at the time that the screen went black.

i have opened the case and had a look, and nothing appears loose or broken.
not knowing much about video cards, i am wondering can anyone shed any light.

PC turns on find and appears to fire up as per normal, but nothing appears on screen, which as i said just shows an 'idle' screen as if waiting for pc to be turned on.

many thanks as per usual for any tips.

  • first thing - can you try another monitor? this will tell you whether it is your monitor, or your PC which is at fault. which will then make it easier diagnose

Check monitor is plugeed in properly - it can work loose if not screwed in

As Goldndelicious has said - try another monitor

Failing the above I would suspect the video card, ensure its plugged in correctly, if it is then buy a cheap one and replace to see if that works.
