Been using wrong meter for gas readings. What next?

During the course of getting our boiler serviced today, the engineer discovered that we've been giving readings from the wrong meter.
We've been in our flat for about 18 months, and I always suspected the meters were dodgy: bills the same even after we'd been away, meter spinning round even though nothing was on etc, but when I got in touch with British Gas they explained it away.
Anyway rung them today, it turns out that the meter that we now know is ours is run by EDF, so there will have to be a bit of to-ing and fro-ing between the companies to establish what's what, and they will get back to me.
Knowing how careful we've been with our gas usage, I can only imagine that at some point they'll look at what the meter is now, find out what it was about the time we moved in, and if we've overpaid we'll get a rebate?
Does that mean the other flat could get hit with a bill when all's said and done, and are BG good about coughing up rebates? Any other experiences with this?

Once this is all sorted out, you should all be getting revised bills from your suppliers amending the accounts accordingly.
Any goodwill gestures are purely at the discretion of the supplier"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
