Hi
This is my first post be gentle with me.
I know I have been silly. I took out a contract with my mobile phone and did not take insurance. I let my mobile slip out my hand into a basin of water. Could not believe I had been so stupid. I have tried :mad:to dry it out and it worked by sending one message and then died what can I do and do I have a leg to stand on.
I took the contract out about four months ago and it was for twenty four months.
I thought I would ask for help before I went to the shop.
Thanks for any help.

Liquid damage isnt covered under the manufacturers warranty, so they probably wont fix the phone, they might offer you a discount on buying the handset again. Or you can see if your home insurance/bank/other 3rd party covers mobiles0

The phone is probably a right off, but you can take the sim card out and put it in another phone. Buy a cheap pay-as-you-go phone on the same network, and at least you can make/receive calls again.0

Hang on, when did you drop the trinket? If only just now, put it in the airing cupboard to dry for a day or two and then try it. Otherwise, I am afraid it is possibly best used as football, minus the sim card0

take out the battery and sim card and dry as much as you can then bury the lot in dry rice for a couple of days, the rice draws out the moisture, if it doesnt work put it back in for another while
tried and tested twice, my phone was dropped in the bath then was out all night in the rain on top of the binits still working

Is it covered by your home contents insurance?0

Might be covered on the house contents insurance as stated above. Don't right it off totally. Leave it driving for a week. Buy a new battery even as that might of shorted now. They also will know it's been dropped in water because the battery has the little sticker on that goes pink when in contact with water.0

I've been told that the best thing to do if your phone is dropped in water is to leave it turned off ina warm dry place and under no circumstances try to turn it on until you are absolutely sure it has dried out.
Too late for the OP though and it was too late for me too when I dropped mine down the loo.0 -

Yep because if you turn it on it can short. Drying out can help. Old skool ones seems to survive more. My mate dropped his old skool phone years ago down the loo a couple of times. Just drying it out helped.0 -

Yup, can testify to this.. the gf seems to like dropping her mobile into the loo and we've done the rice trick.. works everytime!:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
Lab knocked mine into paint stripper a while back.
Threw it under the tap, washed it off- obviously after it was powered down, bought a new battery, and left it drying out in the proch for a few days (warmest section of the house). After I'd reassembled it, it worked fine (can't remember which phone, but was a touchscreen Samsung I think), the only exception being the photo quality- went from bad to abysmal.
Was thinking you'd be better grabbing an old phone or cheap one for the duration of your contract- accidents happen, but you almost certainly wouldn't get much joy bringing it back...0
