Hard Disc is very small at 40 gigs.0

This is a little on the expensive side but you are paying a little extra for the reputation of the firm. Unless you have the restore discs or can make your own there is a risk that you would be left stranded if the XP software crashed0

I agree with julianashcroft. The hard drive is tiny. Also, it only has a CD writer not a dvd writer. It can only read DVDs. A DVD writer is needed with today's large files. Please also bear in mind that the fact that they say it cost £1400 new is neither here nor there. This kind of technology has dropped in price dramatically over the years.0

Thank you, its a bit more than I was going to pay, but it's his birthday next month so I will try to strech things a bit and see if I can get it for him, He has a very old Acer that works but is now very slow and needs sorting out, in the last 6 months I got him a new power cable and extra memory, but I don't think it is worth spending any more on it, but perhaps I could put that on gum tree and get a fe pound back.
Thanks again for the info Drinda0 -

the slow acer is a software problem. post a hijackthis log or backup data then restore to factory settings, (ALT F10 at boot) to speed it up.
£175 is steep for a second hand laptop, new netbooks aren't much more.!!

Keep an eye on https://www.dell.co.uk/outlet. It's where they sell their refurbs. You can often get good deals on there. Note that the rpcies do not include VAT or delivery though. You can also get cashback via quidco. It's my problem, it's my problem

Don't think I'd buy it -- for a little bit more, I'd purchase a brand new netbook /0
