Very Old TIME pc traumas ! I need help please

Hello.
Hoping somone can help me here..
Im attempting to sort out a friends PC, so far ive done quite well but I have come to a halt as it has onboard video card which I do not have a driver for.
The PC was running Windows 98 and had completly jammed up with rubbish so in my wisdom I formatted the C drive and installed Windows ME. Everything is tickety boo and running well even tho she only has 128 mb ram. Trouble is, we can only have 16 colours on it so it looks poop. I checked the back and decided to grab a ATI rage 128 card cheap off ebay to stick in and thought problem would be solved. NO....the reason being that the card does not fit !! Its at least 2 inches too long and wont slot in. I always assumed these slots were standard but obviously I was wrong.
Previous to this I downloaded a PC doctor which told me the graphics card was a trident cyberblade i7 but I can not locate a driver for ME for it. I did find one but the pc rejects it which is why I thought I would bypass it and try the card.
Does anyone out there know what sort of card might fit these old machines and point me in the right direction ? Its driving me insane (pardon the pun)
Mand x

    Hi,

If you have a windows 98 driver it should work ok.

P.S. - Windows 98SE is far better than ME, I'd swap it back!

Without looking at it I'd guess it's only got PCI slots, so that's the type of card you want. The rage card you've got is AGP, sorry.

I doubt the mobo has an AGP slot then...

For the drivers, I'd maybe try either 2000 or XP ones, they usually work on ME.

I guess a PCI graphics card would work - eBay?

The drivers appear to be listed here http://www.video-drivers.com/companies/1072.htm

The 2000/XP drivers will be built on an NT based driver model, they are less likely to work than the '98 editions.

weemee - you're spot on, my mistake. Head's full of some viral thingy today, not feeling too great.

I think I went here ! Even tho pc doctor says its that card, as its on board im convinced its lying as when i select that driver ME throws back a message saying its not the right one and it just wont work grrrrr... Im going to go for the easy option and order a PCI card only £4-5 so probably easier and bettr in the long run.
    Thank you for your input.:o
