Gym Membership: 12 months/ rolling contract?

Hello all!
I joined a gym and it was explicitly stated that the contract was for a period of 12 months. However, after the 12 months period, money was taken out in the 13th month of the contract and I was then told that the contract was a rolling contract (even though I had requested a cancellation from the gym owner, although she denies it). I am not aware of any other relevant terms.
Please advise further.
Thank you in advance!
Regards.

Check their T&Cs. Also, make sure what you gave was is writing.0

Most, if not all, gym contracts have a minimum term. In your case this appears to be twelve months.
At the end of that minimum period, it is usual to continue the contract on a monthly basis.
Did you give notice of termination in writing?
You carefully avoided answering that question in your previous thread.
If not, then it is your word against theirs. Get that written notice in asap.0 -
Thank you for the advice.
In regards to carefully avoiding answering the question in my previous thread, that seems to suggest that I didn't answer the question on purpose. I went in to see the bank and the gym owner on a number of occasions but never cancelled in writing. It was always verbal. The gym owner assured me on a verbal basis that she would cancel it. I had never had any problems with the gym prior to this when I moved away and asked for my membership to be cancelled, verbally, hence I thought it would be ok this time too. Now, of course, I know better.
