housing benefit and uni student coming home

just looking for the future, my son is currently doing a levels and wants to go to uni, we currently get a HB top up, but wondered what would happen if he came home for all the holidays, do HB take all that into consideration or would i have to think about downsizing and he will have to sleep on the couch.

we would like to keep his room open for him, but need to plan for the future.

What will your son receive in terms of student grant and loan which are premised on maintaining a student through the holidays, too? Will he be looking for part time work to support himself?

AFAIK, adult children in full time studies living elsewhere in Higher Education are not classed as dependents so I am not certain that his vacation visits will entitle you to any extra benefits, allowances or credits but hopefully another MSE member can confirm if this is the case.
