Antique window glass

Hi Im looking for some advice as to the best place to sell this unusual item.

It is a window pane of glass from a bathroom but it is the frosted kind with ship design....it is antique and i have had someone from a window company who said i could sell it.

Any ideas where to sell this?

Would ebay be the best? or gumtree? or is there another site that would be better for the likes of this?

Any advice appreciated.

TIA

  • Ive seen stain glass windows sell well on ebay with pick up only, but that would depend on where you live, if you live fairly central people will travel.
savage yards would be interested but wont pay what its worth, they, after all would be wanting to make a profit.

i think the best thing to do is think what you be happy accepting and stick it on ebay at that price either as an auction start price or buy it now.

  • Have you thought about a normal auction house? EBay pick up would be fine, trying to post glass would be a nightmare IMO
  • Auction houses will take a bigger cut than ebay. Check out completed listings to get an idea of what you may get for it. Don't try to send it - most courier firms don't cover glass and from my past experiences don't treat parcels with much care.
  • Thanks il try it on gumtree and ebay as pick up only.....

Not too sure how auction houses work....and if there is one near me.

Just make sure you are aware of the paypal on collection scam, you can't actually fully protect yourself but knowing about it is half the solution.

Before going the eBay route, I'd try contacting antique shops, particularly those that specialise in maritime items, for which there is a large, lucrative market. and ask as many opinions as you can: I once had a set of 3 Victorian prints valued by a London specialist at £50, then took them along to Antiques Roadshow and got them valued at £300-£500!

I know of at least one eBay maritime antiques seller, based on the south coast, who buys items and offers them for 10 times the amount they paid. See if you can make yourself an honest profit, rather than make a dealer a dishonest one!
