The construction of two new aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, will go ahead, as it would cost more to cancel the projects than proceed with them

Who thought it was a good idea to buy another two ships when they were £165bn in debt this year already?

I bet the Argentinian government is rubbing their hands with glee at this announcement.

We aren't at war. Not a conventional one anyway. And if we were then we would be 99% reliant on permission from the Americans to project military power overseas, which would only be given if they were themselves involved in the conflict, meaning our participation would be pointless anyway.

We could double our navy to 4 aircraft carriers and 50 ships and they'd just about serve as half a days cannon fodder if China and Taiwan kicked off.

The kind of conflict we are involved in is assymetric warfare occupying countries where the civilian populous is largely hostile. Therefore it makes more sense to spend the money on infantry, intelligence and flak jackets.

Having a navy is mostly a reputational statement these days, one that we cant afford due to being broke.
  • this is the price you pay for having 13 years of labour rule. the army has no aircraft carrier's with aircraft, but shal and dal have a nice 42" plasma and all the stella they could want.

never forget - LABOUR DESTROYED THIS COUNTRY with their lunacy.

Labour - Lets build 40 new schools and give all the kids free meals and free everything. Isn't this good

Conservative - yes, theoretically it is very good, but there is no money to pay for it. so it can't be done

Labour - Look the nasty party doesn't want to help kids. they are nasty. booo hisssss etc

Conservative - no, we are not nasty, we are simply living in the real world and can only do what we can afford

Labour - we will just borrow. and borrow and borrow. and when we run out again, we will borrow more, afterall, it is just free money that never has to be repaid.

Conservative - no actually, it does need to be repaid, and will have huge consequences for years to come

Labour - whatever, talk to the hand. its free stuff for all. isn't that great!!!

Conservative - great, but not financially viable.

Labour - booo hissss nasty party, thatcher milk snatcher and so on forever and ever amen.
  • I think it's better to have 2 large aircraft carriers than to waste billions renewing trident.

& if the Marshians attacked we would be !!!!!!ed without them thingy mejiggy laser proton atomisers.

What is the point of having peashooters?

    ;)

I don't think the army ever had an aircraft carrier with aircraft.
