ebay - what shall i do now?

Hi there,

recently sold a pair of mens jeans - the buyer paid straight away...i later got an email from them informing me that they are an overseas bidder and its ok as they are sure my stated postage will be enough (its not but only pence so i didnt want the hassle) however they have not got there postcode so paypal will not let me print the postage out - contact buyer twice since then requesting this but no response....what shall i do now :-(

Your buyer may be in a country where they don't have postcodes or have a different format to ours. Ireland for one, and other countries tend to have a string of numbers before the town name rather than after it (e.g. my old address in Poland was 54-XXX Lodz, not Lodz 54-XXX).

I feel a trip to the PO may be in order.

Thanks - i have googled the town and it is in ireland so i guess i may just need a few numbers like you said. will contact the PO and see if i can send without one. just worried they will say they have not received it as he is not paying to get it tracked or recorded.

make sure you ask for proof of postage at the post office - it is free

Ireland only has postcodes for Dublin, so I don't think the PO will be able to stop you sending anything without a postcode, otherwise no-one would ever send a letter to Cork or Limerick or wherever. They are not even mandatory to use here, they just speed up mail going through machines.

Just take the Parcel to the PO then you will be able to send it's. It's only Paypal mail that refuses to send without a postcode.

There aren't any postal codes in the Republic of Ireland.

Ireland has no postal/zip codes, except in Dublin where the city is divided in postal codes 1-24.

Getting it recorded is not for his benifit it is for your's, a paypal charge back is automatic if you have no tracking to prove delivery.
Make sure you get a certificate of posting though as it will at least cover you for up to £41 if he does claim non delivery.

Sending it tracked to Ireland will cost you £4.50 in ISF (? as haven't used it in a while) so it's really superfluous.

If you are nervous after reading these forums - don't be, this is where people come if they have a problem. Even if the buyer says they haven't got it, chances are since a lot of mail does go missing every year, then they are probably not lying and you have to treat them as such. The number of packages that do go missing is not large enough to justify even the 74p UK tracking charge, let alone the £4.50 international one.
