Picture quality on Sony Bravia

Just got myself a new tv for the dining room, see link below.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL32EX401U-32-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B003BVI494/ref=br_lf_m_1000389623_1_19_ttl?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&pf_rd_p=215931147&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1000389623&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=17KVCE7RJGQD1A660WDE

However the picture quality is a bit grainy on non HD channels. Does anyone have the same model with similar problems or if not what is the best picture settings for this tv.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 42 inch Bravia. Actually it makes a decent job of SD broadcasts compare to many a set you see in the showrooms. The default settings tend to be bit too vivid, try power saving (low) mode. Also I found that a Humax box gives slightly better SD via it's tuner compare to the Sony. Maybe you are sitting too close? We sit about 8 feet from the 42".

Turn off all the extra processing modes (definitely do NOT keep it on 'vivid' mode)
    Switch off power saving/eco modes
Use a THX disc to setup contrast and brightness

I use the power saving (low) mode to actually save energy - Bravias have a light sensor and in saving mode, will reduce the brightness of the screen if the room light dims while leaving the picture perfectly watchable. Works well.
