Tax credits confusion

Hello! Im new to the tax credits system, I just gave birth to my first daughter, and after 4 weeks of waiting, have just phoned the tax office to fione out when my payment would be...she said it was going to be paid on Thursday (yey!) but then said there is one payment for £68, one for £39 and one for £11 and then a backdated payment for around £260...

I am guessing the £68 is the child tax, the £11 is working tax (as these are what we were told on the questionnaire we would get a week), but the £39 I am unsure about...I did apply for housing benefit as I was told by EntitledTo that I would get around £35 a week towards my rent from my LHA....I heard nothing back, but surely that wouldnt be paid through the Inland Revenue??? The fact they are 3 seperate payments does that mean they are 3 seperate "benefits", or are they something else? I just dont understand it, and the baby was crying so I had to get off the phone as soon as possible...so I didnt even get her to clarify it all for me!! Im a little worried that we may only be getting £39 a week and that the £68 and £11 are something else...or even worse only getting £11 a week...we certainly couldnt live off that!

Anyone in the know have any idea?? :)

  • Hiya what you receive depends on your financial situation, are you working? Are you married, etc? Often with a new claim you would receive different payments until they have paid back money you are entitled to. Then it will be a set payment at a set time. If you have a backdated payment of £260 plus other payments for a peiod of 4 weeks that suggest to me you will be receiving a lot more than you anticipate, but it will all be detailed on the form they send you.

They are not three seperate benefit payments, they all come from HMRC and you are correct you wouldn't get HB from the Inland revenue.

Did you add childcare costs into your application?

There are three parts to tax credits: Child tax credits, working tax credits and childcare costs.
    *SIGH*
    :D
  • I phoned back and got it explained! It was Child Benefit for one week, and 3 weeks backdated, and working tax credits for one week, and 3 weeks backdated!!! :)
