Will changing be a problem because im br?
Cant afford to be with outpet insurance but this seems very steep to me.
Anyone know please.

Ugh really sorry - I had a nightmare with sainsburys! I had to keep my dog with them as she had an ongoing condition, however I shopped around the changed the others.

Not sure how/if you BR will affect you changing.

Maybe try shopping around and get some quotes - it will say somewhere in the small print if it does.

Also try and do it through a cash back site - ever little helps.

Lastly if you have had claims - try and make sure that any illnesses or on going conditions will still be covered - this is the problem I had which is why I had to keep the dog with Sainsburys.

  • I think I may have to keep the older dog with the original insurance, but am looking in to quotes for the other. Like you the older dog has problems which I dont think another company will take on.

We have the same problem as you unfortunately.

Our premiums have more than doubled and as our dog has a pre-existing condition thats being treated with long term meds we are stuck where we are.

I don't know if BR affects taking out new insurance but would be interested to know how you get on with taking out a new policy. Good luck.
  • mine doubled at renewal prior to BR so I am not sure it is the BR thats affected the premium.
  • No its not the br that has effected the premium, think its that I have had a few claims. I am more worried that br will effect any new policy.

No, BR should have no effect. We havent had to make any claims (thank god) for our dog but our former insurer (More Than) wanted to increase our premium on renewal so I just shopped around on the web and found the best deal for us - turned out to be with Homebase of all places. There was no question about BR on the application and I couldnt see anything about it in the policy t&c's. They gave a really good rate as well.
    Good luck.

  • Do Co-op do pet insurance? I know they are fine with you being BR on their car and home policies, it doesn't bump up the premium at all with them.

Or Barclays if you are an existing customer? I checked with them re insurance (I have a basic Barclays account and am recently BR) and they told me they don't run credit checks for their insurance if you have an account with them.
  • Im not sure if co op do pet insurance, but will be looking in to it. Thanks

Im with Animal Friends, they had the best cover/price when we first got it for our Bulldog. He has had lots of problems & an on-going hip condition and they have been great, payed out very quick no questions asked, they even paid us £35 more than we paid our vet once :D
Our policy has gone up £18 this year but we have claimed numerous x-rays and all sorts
  • Thanks, have looked at animal friends but has not got very good reviews ie people saying they are not good at paying out etc. any one else have any experience of them.
