s/h/it used to be acceptable on mailing lists - not seen it recently however. (Granted it was usually used in a derogatory sense...)
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries

    OK - this gets weirder:

I wrote to NS&I and told them i thought they had made an overpayment, so they finally got in touch today, explained things at length, and concluded that all was in order - no overpayment, no further action required by me!

What do I have to do!

Now I'm wondering whether I was right - the payment was not coded as NS&I payments usually are - it showed up in my account as 'Payment Received' - so i don't really know what to do; i can't force them to take the money back, and in any case they would need to tell me how to pay it back to them - i.e. provide remittance instructions.

    Any bright ideas?

IMHO you need to get it in writing from them that you don't owe them anything then you can keep it. I would not rely on a phone call.

Since my last post I received a letter back in November which, although it did not state categorically that this was not an overpayment, did say that if an overpayment had been made they would have pursued it.
Nothing else has happened since - no further contact from NS&I, so i have kept and spent the money!

It must have been my Fairy Godmother....

    Silhart,

Interesting stuff.... Do you presently still hold any bonds or other products with NS&I out of curiosity ?

Are you sure that you never chose to have any prize draw winnings automatically re-invested (upto £5000) which could possibly be the surplus £1000 amount that they then correctly returned to you ?

Is it possible the payment came from somewhere else and not NS&I since the above previous quoted post you made implied the £1000 arrived in your account as a separate payment ?

(Could be someone out there missing £1000 !!)

    Happy spending! MM
