Electric socket below water pipe....that leaked!!!!

Under my sink the pipe that takes the water supply to the washing machine started leaking at the joint and was leaking directly into the plug socket for the washing machine which is situated directly below the water pipes. We had the kitchen installed last year and I am wondering if anyone can tell me if that sort of arrangement is legal....it certainly doesn't seem safe.

Got a plumber coming out to fix the leaking pipe this morning.

Hi strawberrypud - You are right to be concerned and should call the kitchen fitting contractor.
If they are no longer around you will need a Sparks to re-locate the socket, but if this is not possible because of the limited space, it should be changed for an 'Outdoor' water proof socket

It seems to be legal as I have the same. When the landlord got a safety certificate recently, the socket above the sink was moved away but the one below was left so I checked it out and there seems to be no regulation for either. It was just safe practice that had them move the one above the sink. I'd like to know what your plumber says though, just to cofirm.

It may not be good practice but it is not illegal. It may be that the plumbing was routed above an existing socket, rather than the socket installed below the pipes.
