Are you sure, a corrupt drive won't work, let alone Google desktop tell you. This is a serious problem if you are right to discuss on a forum. How are you reading this. Do you have another PC. What software programs do you have at your disposal.0

My laptop seems to be working fine. I have uninstalled Google desktop, and the message has disappeared. I have another laptop that I can use.

Google is your friend:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265
When you complete the process you then need to reboot and it will run at start up.
The link above assumes you are running XP.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thank you for being so helpful. Off to run it now
Edit : Sorted thanks, it deleted lots of corrupt files and seems to be running fine now. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever

If chkdsk find corrupted files, it is likely that is has found some areas of your hard drive that have failed. This does not mean the total disk failure is imminent, but you should certainly ensure that your data is backed up. Remember that any hard drive over about 3 years old is on borrowed time-they all fail eventually. No free lunch, and no free laptop

totally agree with this, use this as a warning and start the process of backing up your documents and files
the quickest and easiest way of doing this is with a external hard drive these are relitivly cheap http://www.ebuyer.com/product/199267 £57 for a 1tb hard drive
of course you can back up by burning DVD's which can be even cheaper than a portable hard drive - although more effort http://www.ebuyer.com/product/163803 £13.50 for 470gb
next is online storage now this can be a lot of hassle as upload speeds in the UK are pitiful, this being said once done it should be safer than either external hard drive or dvd's due to the back up protercalls in the datawarehouses the information is stored - online storage can be gotten for a monthly payment or yearly, however you can get some free ones, Hotmail currently offers 25gb of free storage with their email accounts which can be very helpful,Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
But of course, you will already be backing up your data regularly anyway-won't you?No free lunch, and no free laptop
