Have you also ordered a orchid electronics box to automatically dial the prefix for you, or are you just remembering to dial it yourself first?

no i havent ordered an orchid dialler, as i cant afford one just at the moment. i may use my quidco cashback from uswitch to get one though ;)
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

tankgirl, best move u will make going over to primus, 1899 etc. Kinda scary cos you think its all going to go "a over t" but i have just had the switch over past week and fantastic stuff. All the others were very helpful with the advise on this forum and I wish I had done it earlier. I have tried some of my mates but they seem to switch off halfway trying to explain it but tis simple!!

good luck from a "once blonde bloke but now bald with bits of blond ear and there:rotfl: "
Currently 4 me its Rogers Contract cell phone, REBTEL.COM is the best mobile making and receiving calls to/from UK and Canada:beer:
  • I have just signed up to Primus and am toying with the idea of signing up with 18185 etc as well. I know I shouldn't dither about this but I am just a little worried that I will pick up a 3p set-up charge from BT as well as the charges from Primus.  I think I read somewhere that because all my calls will be handled by Primus BT won't be able to charge anything - Can anyone confirm this to be correct???

One other worry is that the overide providers charge as soon as you use them so you get billed for calls to engaged numbers etc. At least BT don't do this.
 Interest should be a FOUR letter word.

If you've signed up for Primus Saver Option 2, all outgoing calls on your BT line (BTW, don't forget to ensure you're on BT Together Option 1 and pay the line rental by DD) bypass BT and will be sent via Primus when it goes live. That'll give you free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls but, between 8am and 6pm weekdays, Primus will charge you for such calls unless you then bypass them by dialling a prefix.

That's why 1899 is also recommended (make those weekday daytime UK 01/02 calls for 3p each simply by using the 1899 prefix).

Similarly, 18185 is recommended for your calls to mobiles and 0845/0870 numbers.

Neither charge for engaged or 'no reply' calls (unlike the 0844/0871 override services on which charges start as soon as you've dialled their number).

To set your mind at ease, dialling a 1899 or 18185 prefix bypases BT (or will bypass BT and Primus when Primus goes live on your BT line) so you pay 1899's 3p or 18185's 4p per call connection charge - but nothing to BT (or Primus).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
