You could perhaps have a few tables set up and if you had a few willing adult volunteers you could have a few activity tables.

Playdough flour and oil and food colouring cheap and kids enjoy it.

cheap digestives jam and icing sugar- let kids design their own empire biscuits

    Face painting.

we are going to play stations

get 4 parents to each hold up a peice of card with either a colour or a picture on it

play the music and when it stops they all run to a station

have smaller cards and get people to randomly choose a card and all those at that station are out

keep going til 1 is left that is the winner

if game goes on too long then remove 1 station

  • My 6 year old went to a party last year which was great - in a hall - it was set out with funfair games -
    - hook a duck - small paddling pool, ducks with hooks in them, pieces of dowel with hook.

    - tin can alley - stack of tin cans ( or plastic tubs or skittles), ball to knock them over

    - Darts - magnetic darts

    - hoopla - hoops, squares to throw the hoops on to

    - penalty shoot out, ball, net or two chairs to make goal posts

    - ball in the bucket - bucket, ball

They made tokens for the kids - each child gets tokens for the games and maybe a small prize on each of the stalls, you will need a older child or adult to man the stalls
    I have 2 gorgeous kids :D
  • I took my son to a party when he was 5 and it was called "Welcome to the Mess" the clue was in the name. on the invite it said please have clothes on that you don't mind getting dirty.
They were split into 2 teams. each person had to run a course of all different things like hoops, chuck the bean bags in the buckets etc and at the end they had to put their face into a bowl full of cold beans or custard and pull out a key. that key they had to try a lock which opened a box with eggs in. They had to pick a egg and bang it on their head which would break but there was a fake one in there. If was so funny and so messy i think i had more fun than him. At the very end of the party the dad of the child shouted " now run and give your mum a hug to win a prize" i was covered.
My son is 8 now and i think every year since he has asked for a messy party
