Party Ideas for 5 year olds

I am trying to come up with ideas for party games or things to do for 25 5 year olds. As there is a lot of kids i'm struggling to know what to do!!
I'm probably going to hire a hall - do games etc for 1 hour then food for 30 minutes.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

The last party my Son went to for 5 year olds which was in a hall they did:
Musical bumps
Musical statues
Split into 4 groups had an older kid in each group and had to wrap them like a Mummy with toilet roll
A relay race similar to sports day - about 6 kids in each group one behind the other in a line, 4 groups, each child had to run to a line and back to their group
They did apple bobbing with water
They did a similar apple bobbing game but with flour too - cant remember what fruit it was though (!)
You could do 1/2 games and 1/2 hour mini disco with you DJ'ing the kids music - usual cheesy stuff went down well!0 -
pass the parcel is a definite, they all love that.
take some toys for those children who dont want to sit down and join in with all of the games as there may be a few with lots of children.
I had a theme for my daughters 5th, it was hawaiian dress and they loved it.Debt free wannabe
Littlewoods - £214.82 (DD set up so 0%)
Very - £100 (0% on BNPL - 1/4/13)
CC - £2600/£3533.53 (0% until 1/6/14)0 -
Forgot pass the parcel - yes def favourite - they wrapped a little sweet in each layer too so noone got upset!0

You could tell everyone it's a fancy dress party, so they can come in whatever costume they have at home.
As the others have said, pass the parcel is a must! Also, how about a pinyata (either the ones that you bash with a stick or the one's that you can pull the strings on). My son has had a pinyata for his last 2 parties (he is now 5) and the kids absolutely loved it. If you have a Homebargains near you, they have them in there for about £5 which includes a stick and eyemask.
Other favourite games are musical statues, musical bumps and musical chairs
Good Luck with the party!

Lots of variations to pin the tail on the donkey!
My daughters 5th party this year I had plenty planned, and for half of it they ended up playing hide and seek! Parce the parcel is great but with that many kids will take quite a while. We played musical statues, sleeping lions (fab when you need a breather!), parce the parcel, bit of disco dancing time, pin the kiss on the frog and pin the tiara on the princess and food time. Will you allow your child to open presents at the party or take them home wrapped? My daughter opened hers so that took up time too.
Have fun, it'll be manic! Make sure there's a bottle of wine (or whatever your vice is) waiting for you after! Whatever you do your child will love it i'm sure.

Let loose a big bag of balloons (unless birthday child hates them) and play some music - some children will dance and some will run around like loonies chasing the balloons. If you want to put in lots of effort - make model balloons in advance (animals, flowers, swords).
If you want to splash out and take some pressure off you could always hire a bouncey castle.
I second the recommendation for having a bottle of wine on standby to relax with after!!0 -
Having a theme is good fun. For my sons 5th birthday we had a pirate party. We got hold of lots of boxes and drew ships on them. They spent ages climbing in and out of them. Then we did musical chairs with a difference. Cut up more cardboard and painted islands on them so it was musical islands. We got our kids to help make all these things.
We did a treasure hunt, we took pictures of people and objects and just printed them on paper where the next clue was hidden. We thought pictures were more appropriate as they were all just learning to read and the prize was just a chocolate coin each in a cardboard chest.
And then a pinata which took up loads of time as the kids just wanted to carry on smashing it even after it cracked and they were all happy to line up to take their turn which was great.
I like the balloon idea as well. At that age you are better at aiming at wearing them out rather than get them to sit down to play a game.
It was great fun but have to say it was one of the most shattering 2 hours of my life.0 -
We played a game called squares - 20 or so is ideal.
Divide them up into 4 teams and make them sit in a large square.
Give each player a number so each team will have a 1,2,3,4,5 etc.
Put 3 items in the middle of the square
Call out a number - when called the player runs round the square and back to where they started, goes into the middle and grabs an item. This earns their team a point. 1 team obviously won't win a point each time.
When everyone's had a go, call out 2 numbers so twice as many kids run round - this makes it a bit harder.
Go to 3 numbers each time etc until you've had enough.
The winning team gets a prize - the game could last about 15-20 minutes.
Not as difficult as it sounds, but great fun.0 -
I know it might sound old fashioned but we used to play 'Beetle' at my mums sunday school parties as well they can get quite into it...Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0
