I don't get any sick pay at all from my employer.

We are allowed to take a sick day as annual leave instead but that's not quite the same and wouldn't work for a long illness.

    I'm rarely ill, thank goodness.

Depends how you look at it really!

This is important and as said there needs to be a medium found that is good for employer and employee but almost certainly nothing for the probationary period IMO

In my old firm we got sick pay but no-one was ever of sick because we used to get a £100 a month bonus if we wasn't off paid at the end of the year, but for everyday you had off sick you lost the £100, so if you had 5 days sick in a year you would lose £500. It was a lovely way to pay for christmas.
  • bestspud - that's not legal. You have the right to SSP, employers can't opt out.
Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.

I suspect it is an option rather than a replacement and remember that if you have odd days off you may not be paid as the first three days of SSP are not paid...
